چکیده

The development and implementation of technology that can capture transform carbon dioxide (CO2) is ongoing interest. To end, the integration molecular electrocatalysts into devices appealing because desirable features molecules, such as ability to modify active sites. Here, we explore how identity aliphatic group in 1,4,8,11,15,18,22,25-octaalkoxyphthalocyanine cobalt(II) affects catalytic behavior for heterogeneous CO2 reduction electrocatalysis. alkyl R-groups correspond n-butoxy, sec-butoxy, 2-ethylhexoxy. All catalysts are soluble organic solvents readily solution-processed. However, larger 2-ethylhexoxy showed solution aggregation at concentrations ≥1 mM, it was, general, an inferior catalyst. other two show comparable maximum currents, but octa sec-butoxy-bearing catalyst rate constants based on foot-of-the-wave analyses. This hypothesized be due sec-butoxy groups eliminate alkoxy oxygen block Co Sites via ligation. activity rationalized solid-state structures. Cobalt(II) phthalocyanine its derivatives known good catalysts, results from this work suggest straightforward incorporation bulky improve processability per site by discouraging aggregation.

A Review of Iron and Cobalt Porphyrins, Phthalocyanines, and Related Complexes for Electrochemical and Photochemical Reduction of Carbon Dioxide

This review summarizes research on the electrochemical and photochemical reduction of CO2 using a variety of iron and cobalt porphyrins, phthalocyanines, and related complexes. Metalloporphyrins and metallophthalocyanines are visible light absorbers with extremely large extinction coefficients. However, yields of photochemically-generated active catalysts for CO2 reduction are typically low owi...

Solution-Processable Silicon Phthalocyanines in Electroluminescent and Photovoltaic Devices

Phthalocyanines and their main group and metal complexes are important classes of organic semiconductor materials but are usually highly insoluble and so frequently need to be processed by vacuum deposition in devices. We report two highly soluble silicon phthalocyanine (SiPc) diester compounds and demonstrate their potential as organic semiconductor materials. Near-infrared (λ(EL) = 698-709 nm...

Electrocatalytic reduction of carbon dioxide to carbon monoxide and methane at an immobilized cobalt protoporphyrin

The electrochemical conversion of carbon dioxide and water into useful products is a major challenge in facilitating a closed carbon cycle. Here we report a cobalt protoporphyrin immobilized on a pyrolytic graphite electrode that reduces carbon dioxide in an aqueous acidic solution at relatively low overpotential (0.5 V), with an efficiency and selectivity comparable to the best porphyrin-based...
